AVANT-GARDE MATERIALS: FLEXAFOLD
It is called Flexafold and because of its excellent features it won the Excellence Award for the 2018 edition of Materialica Design + Technology Gold Award, dedicated to research in the field of materials sciences, engineering and design. What permitted to this structure in bio-inspired gradual fiber with integrated pneumatic implementation to outdo other projects was its highly innovative nature, resulting from the work of an interdisciplinary team (Institute of Building Structures and Structural Design (ITKE) - University of Stuttgart; for textile and fiber technologies (ITFT) - University of Stuttgart; German institutes for research on fabrics and fibers (DITF), department of composite materials, braiding technology; Institute of Evolution and Ecology (EvE), University of Tübingen. Financed by the Baden-Württemberg Foundation as part of the BIAG project "Adaptive shading systems for bio-inspired façades", the research has led to the production of a plastic reinforced with bio-inspired fibers (FRP) with innovative integrated actuators (to learn more: https://www.itke.uni-stuttgart.de). "To invest in research, develop studies and shape projects that will make the new materials the starting point is also our commitment. We are active in pursuing collaborations with universities and research centers that are sensitive to these issues, the lifeblood for those who, like us, work to find high-performing solutions in the roofing sector. This material, already patented, has certainly characteristics of interest for our sector, commented Roberto Rescia CEO of CoverHat.
