ENHANCEMENT OF MATERIALS: THE NEW TORONTO UNIVERISTY

Design a building that would fit in harmoniously with the old brick walls of the old university campus, built in 1875 in neo-Gothic style. This is the challenge of the NADAAA studio charged with planning the extension of Toronto University. Goal: to create a new pole of design, architecture and landscape by combining old and new stylistic languages. To achieve the goal, it was decided to restore the existing structure to its primordial state, enhancing its original materials and details.

With this aim it happens that the new three-storey pole called Daniels Buildings approaches the historic U-shaped building creating a more intimate central courtyard and hosting the most dynamic activities of the university, such as collective spaces and laboratories. "The use of materials and the ability to combine ancient and modern are fundamental keystones for giving a flash of contemporaneity to every project. Thanks to this awareness, also our staff takes into account the mixture of these two souls, capable of making each creation evocative ” says Roberto Rescia, CEO of Cover Hat.
