GOOD PROJECTS: THE LIBRARY OF THE TREES
GOOD PROJECTS: THE LIBRARY OF THE TREES

Absence of fences to allow the continuity of the pedestrian spaces between the headquarters of the Lombardy Region, Piazza della Repubblica and Piazza XXV Aprile, creating a pedestrian area that with its 170,000 square meters and 5 km of cycle paths is the largest in Milan. This is the strength of the Library of Trees, a new public park, in Milan, designed by the studio Inside Outside|Petra Blaisse of Amsterdam and realized by COIMA. The park is primarily qualified by the great botanical variety - 500 trees, over 135,000 plants of 100 different species and 22 circular forests - distributed in gardens of contemporary design, where irregular and flowery fields alternate with meadows, small squares, circular forests, a maze and areas equipped with custom furniture.

"A unique realization - comments Roberto Rescia, CEO of CoverHat - which makes innovation of materials and flexibility in the use of space a force. A highly innovative model that leads us to reflect on the requirement to adapt our achievements in this direction ". " Innovation” is the key to the reading and it's given by the materials themselves: in the labyrinth area, for example, a draining solution developed in the laboratories of Bergamo of Italcementi has been used, marketed under the i.idro DRAIN brand, which can rely on a drainage capacity 100 times higher than that of a natural terrain. A plus that allows you to respect the natural water cycle by recharging the groundwater. Sustainable attention and an eco-friendly mood that refers to a typically northern European sensibility, as Pierfrancesco Maran, Councilor for Urbanism, Green and Agriculture, pointed out when the Tree Library was presented: "It is an innovative park, with characteristics referable to the green areas designed in Northern Europe as regards the variety and richness of vegetation. It is a new model of public-private collaboration that we hope to replicate again in the coming years, and which will see the birth of at least 20 new parks in the city".
