PRADA FOUNDATION: NEW INSPIRATION FOR HIGH-RATE COVER PROJECTS

"Architecture, engineering, aesthetics: these are the milestones of our approach when we develop a project that - explains Roberto Rescia, CEO of Cover Hat - in addition to being functional and performing must integrate perfectly with the environment in which it’s inserted.  To create solutions that sublimate all these aspects, being inspired by what is being done in the world is an aspect not secondary in our business”. The Tower of the Prada Foundation, opened to the public since last April, is a recent example. The structure, which marks the completion of the Milan office designed by Rem Koolhaas with Chris van Duijn and Federico Pompignoli of the OMA studio, is a clear example of wise contamination of lines, shapes and materials, that are the founding principles of the roofing covering, too. The Tower is 60 meters high, made of exposed structural white cement, articulated on 9 floors, and thanks to a combination of three spatial parameters - plan, height and orientation - offers an innovative perception of the interiors. Glass and concrete surfaces characterize the external facades, giving the different floors exposure to light on the north, east or west side, while the last exhibition hall is equipped with zenithal light.

"All these differences - explained Rem Koolhaas himself - produces an extreme spatial variety within a simple volume, so that the interaction between the rooms and the individual projects or works of art offers an infinite series of possible configurations". Lastly, the rooftop terrace of the building is conceived as a flexible space characterized by an optical decoration in black and white of the floor and a parapet cladding in mirrors that creates a reflection effect, able to visually eliminate the barrier between space and 360 degree views of the city of Milan. "Harmonize: this is the term that most evoked us the visit of this new structure. The ability to make different souls converse, has allowed the construction of a building of great expressive power ".
