NEW SUSTAINABLE INITIATIVES: THE CARDBOARD HOUSE
The project "Wikkelhouse" is the result of the study and creativity of the company Fiction Factory in Amsterdam, that expands its production by creating a line of small houses entirely in cardboard.
Made entirely of 100% recyclable high strength cardboard, the "packing house", which can be assembled in just 24 hours, is a small architecture consisting of 24 layers of cardboard covered inside with a waterproof but breathable sheet in order to avoid alterations during the rain and allowing the moisture to escape. The exterior instead is covered with dyed pine wood to protect the lamina against UV rays. Wikkelhouse, thanks to its lightness, doesn’t require a foundation and it is equipped with a simply interconnected toilet and kitchen.
Already installed in numerous camping throughout Europe, these cardboard micro houses also meet temporary and permanent accommodation standards: it is three times more sustainable than the traditional construction, with an estimated duration of at least 50 years, and the possibility of reusing the modules guarantees sustainability.
"Research and development are the guidelines on which we build the future that must speak the language of sustainability. A warning, but above all a commitment for all of us - confirms Roberto Rescia, CEO of CoverHat – we who aim to use materials with green soul. We have always been at the forefront of supporting and investing in technologies which allow us to implement the range of materials used for our projects with respect for the environment".
